Rodeo is a sport that developed from the cattle herding practices in Mexico and Spain and later spread to Canada, Australia and the United States. It is a sport that tests the skill and speed of cowboys and cowgirls against livestock like horses. Rodeo as a sport occupies a unique position as it is a window into the past on the one hand and on the other hand displays a fully modern sport that is exciting and interesting.
As mentioned, rodeo developed from the cattle grazing practices which included roping, riding, horse breaking, branding and herding. These chores of the ranches are directly involved with the modern rodeo events like team roping, tie down roping and bronc riding and many more. Although rodeo is considered an American phenomenon, other countries that have livestock and ranching culture have also adopted the rodeo sport and host high quality shows with their own flair and style. Rodeos take place in an arena which is an enclosed, dirt surfaced fenced area. These arenas can be indoor or outdoor. However there is no specific size of the arena but each rodeo arena has roping chutes and bucking chutes, usually at the opposite ends.
